Sketchbook: Coffee Kiosk at Palm Beach
Am I a morning person? absolutely not, so the fact that I got up let alone made it outdoors before 7am is a major achievement for me. It’s a shame because I love the early morning stillness with that filtered light and crisp cool air and all that bird song but I love the late nights as well. I’ve been doing a lot more plein-air sketching lately, mostly with a friend and enjoying it so much I’m trying to make it part of my weekly ritual. Its really quiet refreshing sketching outdoors and you get to really connect with life around you, be more aware and appreciate where we live.
This was an early morning jaunt I took to Palm Beach. I intended to paint a different scene but found it had been taken over by early morning physical jerk people with their noses ground in the dirt and sweating profusely. Nope, not my idea of fun first thing and I’m sure they wouldn’t appreciate me plonking my chair next to them with my coffee and muffin, so I moved on and stumbled upon this funny little coffee kiosk made from an old shipping container. Funny that I’ve never noticed this before right next to Palm Beach Boathouse, or maybe I’d never caught it open. Loved the way the early morning light streamed across it and then this dude with his red shorts appeared from nowhere just at the right time, lucky me!
